PLYMOUTH URBAN MYTH TUNNELS - "PUMTs"

Every since I were a lad....there were stories of underground tunnels linking the land forts to the north west and north east of Plymouth - essentially each fort being connected to each other by underground tunnels, not, repeat not meaning "covered ways." Nobody has ever been in one, yet many know of a friend of a friend who went in one - as a child.

Every paper or book on Plymouth Forts scoff at the idea, none has ever been found. What's more none were on any old War Dept plans of the Forts. For my part, I had looked and never found any, or any hint of any. To me is was a classic urban myth.

After all it's somewhat exciting to believe in exotic lost tunnels, deep underground and forgotten by the world.

So what my friend, Mr X found, is a little hard to explain!

This tunnel is close by a major Plymouth Fort, but well away from it, its not the countermine gallery at Crownhill Fort, its not the steep inclined tunnel under Forder Battery, its not a leat, its not an air raid shelter, so it must be a PUMT!

Mr X located this by dousing, and then he made a small hole. He has doused the immediate area and found more tunnels, but no other easy way in. He has also doused other Plymouth Forts and he believes he has found the same again, but again no way in.

To repeat, these photos are tactually taken in what we will call PUMT no1.

We can`t say yet that the tunnels actually connected the Forts, but we can say that at least one major Plymouth Fort has an unmapped and unrecorded tunnel system under what would have been its glacis.

Other than that...what do any of you know? Please let us know. These photos were taken in July 2007 at/under the glacis/woods/fields/streets close by a Palmerston Fort at the north of Plymouth. This tunnel appears on no plan anywhere and is someway off the site of the fort.

This is not a joke, Cyberheritage is known through out the world and by millions of visitors as to its high quality "content over style" where content is king. Cyberheritage is a trusted name, so this PUMT is 100% real.

This location will be revealed in the fullness of time, but at the moment a mountain of permissions and red tape dictate a tortuous path for further finds - any one crashing in on the site could spell the end for our research, hence the secrecy.
