To visit this location was a 5am start, well worth it though to see it all at sunrise. Lots to see - you'll never do it all - it's all good, so just do what you can. One thing, some pressure was put on us NOT to visit Tutankhamun`s Tomb. We were told there was nothing to see and just a waste of time. Of all the people on our tour, only "us two" went to have a look. It was a little extra to pay, a ŁUK pound or two...but well worth it, to us you have to ask " how could you NOT visit Tutankhamun`s Tomb when in the Valley of the Kings." It's a star turn, atmosphere, all those Sky TV programmes, unmissible, so DON'T MISS IT!
No queues to get in either - is everybody told it is a waste of time?
There are lots and lots and we mean lots of armed guards everywhere - in uniform and in plain clothes. This does not alarm you, it actually makes you feel safe, especially as we all know what happened in 1996 when 60 tourists were shot to death at Hatshepsut.
Take lots of water and a hat and sun block - it is so hot!!
The rules on photography/video at this location are strict and constantly changing - so check on the spot on the day. By and large photography is easier than video, but no flash - these rules will be strictly enforced by the Guardians and the Tourist Police - so try not to break them as you will get into hot water. There are good reasons for the rules, security, crowd flow, and above all conservation.
