Thomas Cook tours turned out to be 100% excellent. You are taken from your own front door, to the airport by private car, there as soon as you stop, your bags are carried for you and you are escorted to the check in desk - EGYPT AIR in our case, an excellent airline by all standards. At check in you are met by the tour guide who will be with you 24/24, 7/7, that's ALL the time from now on...on the plane, in Egypt, on all internal buses, transfers and flights, meals, trips and tours, until you get back to the UK and then he/she waves you goodbye and onto your private car that is waiting to take you home. For us that person was ace Egyptologist Mr Magdi Salem. It says in the publicity material that Thomas Cook tours means "travelling with a trusted friend." Well that's just about it. It could not be any easier or better organised, all the time you feel safe, secure, but not regimented...as Magdi said, " take your time but hurry up!"

There are some early starts, 5am as an example. It has to be like this to get to the sites before it gets too hot, we had 44 degrees C!! and before the crowds are there - sometimes like in the Valley of the Queens it was just us at dawn!! Magic. Back on the boat by 11am, it's hot towels to clean up, hot lemon to cool down and then pool, tea at 4 in the lounge to pan music, or laying in bed and watching in silence the Nile, palms, water buffalo and the villages drift by - guess what we did!! The whole thing is just perfect!!

................and of course my new wife Karen and I were on honeymoon.
